Chestermere Crushers require background screening (also known as a Criminal Record Check) of individuals involved in baseball who hold positions of trust. The policy is designed with the safety of all participants in mind. It specifically applies to coaches, team managers, umpires, team trainers, medical personnel, or people in a position of trust. This includes these roles in teams in age categories up to and including the Junior (22U) age category. It may apply to other individuals as determined by the Association based on an assessment of their role with children or youth and the nature of the situations where they interact with these individuals.
All individuals mentioned above who are 18 years or older as of May 1st of the current season, are required to complete Criminal Record Checks. Failure to complete the criminal record check by the start of the season may result in ineligibility of the individual for the full season.
A new Criminal Record Check is required:
- Every 3 Seasons for Baseball Alberta and Softball Alberta Volunteers
- Every 2 Seasons for Little League Alberta Volunteers
In addition, each individual in a position of trust must complete an Offence Declaration in years 2 and/or 3 of their background check validity to confirm nothing from the original check has changed.
Background Screening is MANDATORY for all Personnel and Volunteers in Chestermere Crushers.
Chestermere RCMP has a fee schedule with the City of Chestermere which was changed at the beginning of 2024. All volunteers who reside within the City of Chestermere do not pay a fee when requesting a criminal record check as long as you provide the RCMP with a volunteer letter which must be on the Organization's letterhead. Without the letter, the fee would be $40.00. The letter would state that a vulnerable sector criminal record check is required.
All Chestermere resident volunteers need to attend in person to complete the criminal record check form and provide two pieces of government issued identification. Preferred first piece of identification would be a drivers licence (as this confirms you reside in Chestermere); second piece can be a health care card, passport or any government issued id as long as it has your name and date of birth on it. If the volunteer is unable to attend in person during business hours of 08:30 am – 4:30 pm, please call the office at 403-204-8777 and the RCMP will obtain their email information and send you the forms with instructions.
There will be occasions where a volunteer will need fingerprints, unfortunately, that will take extra time to have the results come back from Ottawa before we can finish completing the result sheets. For those that do not require fingerprints, the results are usually completed within 5-10 business days.
Should you reside outside of the City of Chestermere, you will have to attend the police department where you reside to have your checks completed.
